Apparent/Alleged Cause of Accident

Semi truck lost crontrol, struck a vehicle, crashed through a divider and struck another car and a a semi.


What Happened

Florida Highway Patrol officials are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that killed seven and injured eight along I-75 near Gainesville, FL on January 3rd, 2019. Officials say the accident involved two tractor-trailers, a van and a mid-sized sedan in the southbound lanes of the freeway. 59-year-old Steve Holland was the driver of one of the two-semis involved. Police say Holland's truck veered into another after losing control. It then reportedly crashed through a center divider and struck a can and another truck. 49-year-old Douglas Bolkea, 14-year-old Joel Cloud, 14-year-old Jeremiah Warren, 9-year-old Cierra Bordelan, 13-year-old Cara Descant and 10-year-old Brieana Descant were all killed in the accident. Those injured were transferred to UF Health Shands Hospital with varying injuries.
