What Happened

A small child suffered fatal injuries in a crash involving a mail truck at I-80 in Gary, IN on March 8th, 2023. Police say it happened around 1:30 a.m. as a loaded U.S. mail semi-truck approached a Nissan Altima. Investigators say the Altima was stopped in a right-hand lane of travel and occupied by two adults and three children. It was not made clear why the vehicle was stopped at the time of the crash. Both adults, including 27-year-old Ta’Quana L. Crawford and two of the children were hospitalized with serious injuries. One of the children, a 6-year-old girl, was fatally injured in the crash. The semi-truck driver was not injured. At this time, police do not have any additional details available to share.
