What Happened

North Carolina Highway Patrol officials are investigating a crash that killed two people at US 220 in Rockingham County, NC on September 1st, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 11 a.m. near Williams Road. Sources indicate a tarp and frame somehow detached from a tractor-trailer, causing a nearby power line to fall. Five approaching motorcycles were involved in a crash while attempting to avoid the fallen power line and tarp. The alleged truck involved is said to have continued traveling, failing to remain at the scene. Two people involved died while three others had suspected serious injuries.
