Hedges was headed westbound on Route 50 believe colliding with the rear of a dump truck under unclear circumstances. The impact caused the vehicle to catch fire, causing Hedges to suffer fatal injuries at the scene. The driver of the dump truck was hospitalized with minor injuries.
