What Happened

Oregon State Police are investigating a crash that killed a man at Turner Rd in Salem, OR on August 12th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 11 a.m. Officials say 81-year-old John Alvin Schwiewek was on an east sidewalk of Turner Rd when he was struck by a semi-truck exiting a nearby Walmart parking lot. Schwiewek suffered fatal injuries in the collision. The truck operator was identified as 62-year-old John Lee Griffin, remained at the scene for authorities, who say no citations or arrests have been made. Additional information was not available.
