What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed a driver at FM 170 in Study Butte, TX on October 15th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 12:31 a.m. According to investigators, a Nissan Altima headed eastbound, approaching a motorcycle stopped in a shoulder. Sources allege the vehicle struck the motorcycle while its operator was still occupying the vehicle, pushing both the vehicle and driver ahead and ejecting the motorcyclist. The operator was identified as 48-year-old Bobby Velasquez, suffered fatal injuries in the incident. The other driver, a 28-year-old Terlingua man, had minor injuries, police say. Sources indicate a Driving While Intoxicated charge was recommended and/or issued against the Nissan operator.
