What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed an officer at I-45 in Centerville, TX on February 20th, 2024. Police say the incident happened around 10:30 p.m. According to investigators, a patrol unit occupied by 38-year-old Deputy Charles Rivette was involved in a collision with an 18w-wheeler. The impact is said to have caused Rivette to be ejected from the vehicle before he was struck by an approaching pickup truck. The patrol unit, operated by 37-year-old Deputy James Francis, was stuck by two 18-wheeler, leaving Francis and an inmate in the vehicle, seriously injured. Rivette died at the scene, reports indicate. One other driver involved was hospitalized for treatment of suspected minor injuries. Additional information was not available.
