Police say the incident happened around 12:54 p.m. According to investigators, a Kia Soul operated by 40-year-old Dulce Esparza Salinas was southbound on US 385 before proceeding northbound in a left lane. Officials say the vehicle came to a stop for unknown reasons before it was struck by an approaching Chevrolet Silverado operated by 18-year-old Matthew Porras. The impact is said to have caused the Chevrolet to overturn multiple times, the crash leaving Porras with suspected non-life-threatening injuries. Salinas was killed in the incident.
