What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed a volunteer firefighter at I-35 in West, TX on March 28th, 2023. Police say the incident happened at the scene of a vehicle fire. Investigators say there were at least two patrol units and a fire truck at the scene where there were struck by a semi-truck. Volunteer firefighter, Edward "Eddie" Hykel, was struck by one of the vehicles in the collision and taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. He later died from his injuries.
