What Happened

Authorities are investigating a crash that killed a man at US 83 in Jones County, TX on December 6th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 6:17 p.m. According to police, a commercial truck operated by an unnamed 69-year-old Trent, TX man was headed northbound on US 83. Officers say a sedan was parked on the north shoulder without active lightning. As the truck approached, the driver of the sedan is said to have exited the vehicle and crossed into the path of the truck. The truck struck the driver, identified as 31-year-old Ezekiel Ortega, causing fatal injuries. Officers had no additional information to disclose.
