What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed four people at State Hwy 114 in Winkler County, TX on September 1st, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 6:45 p.m during heavy rain conditions. Investigators believe a Ford F-150 operated by 34-year-old Jose Luis Baeza was traveling at an unsafe speed prior to hydroplaning into another lane and colliding head-on with a second Ford F-150. 35-year-old Maribel Padilla, a passenger in Baeza's vehicle, suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Emillio Reyes and Ronald Wayne Stooksberry, occupants of the other vehicle, also suffered fatal injuries. Several others involved were hospitalized with serious injuries.
