What Happened

Harris County Sheriff's Office authorities are investigating a crash that injured two people at US 290 in Harris County, TX on August 28th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 4:04 p.m. According to investigators, a Nissan Altima operated by a 64-year-old Waller man was headed westbound on US 290 approaching an exit ramp. A Chevrolet Silverado was reportedly disabled on the ramp as its operator, 32-year-old Omar Ramirez was outside the vehicle working to push it out of the way as his 12-year-old son steered from inside the vehicle. Police say the Altima struck the Silverado and Ramirez, causing Ramirez fatal injuries at the scene. Officers allege the Waller man stated he was viewing his phone at the time of the collision, possibly for a work-related reason. Additional information was not available.
