What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed a person at Lake Mount Pleasant Rd near Montgomery, TX on March 20th, 2023. Officials say the incident happened around 2:32 p.m. Officials say a Honda Accord headed northbound was allegedly traveling at an unsafe speed, approaching a curve in the road. The vehicle lost control at some point before veering into southbound lanes. It then collided with a Toyota Tundra. The Honda operator, identified as 62-year-old Pete Standley Benkowski, suffered fatal injuries at the scene. The other driver, identified as 48-year-old Andre Laubscher, was believed to be uninjured.
