What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that injured a woman at State Hwy 80 in Caldwell County, TX on September 5th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 6:08 a.m. According to investigators, a Honda Civic operated by 28-year-old Rainy Elizabeth Weems was northbound on County Rd 101, approaching the intersection with State Hwy 80. The vehicle is said to have possibly missed a red traffic signal, traveling into the intersection and colliding with a commercial truck that allegedly took faulty evasive action. The impact caused the Honda to spin into a turn lane while the commercial truck impacted another vehicle before catching fire. Officials say Weems was seriously injured while the driver of the other passenger vehicle, 56-year-old Thomas Downs, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
