What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed a driver at FM 4 in Hood County, TX on February 18th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 12:22 a.m. According to investigators, a Chevrolet C1500 operated by 49-year-old Richard Bartells Jr was traveling on FM 4. The vehicle was approaching a curve in the road, allegedly at an unsafe speed. It then began to drift from the road before veering into a ditch. It then struck a mailbox and gate before hitting a tree and catching fire. Bartells suffered fatal injuries in the collision. Additional information was not immediately available.
