What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that injured a driver at US 83 in Zapata, TX on July 21st, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 10:55 p.m. According to investigators, a Nissan Versa operated by a 20-year-old Zapata woman was southbound at the time. Stopped at a red light was a motorcycle operated by 21-year-old Rolando Martinez. Authorities allege the Nissan failed to control its speed and collided with the rear of the motorcycle, ejecting Martinez from the vehicle. Police say Martinez had serious injuries and was hospitalized for treatment. The Zapata woman was not injured, according to authorities. Sources indicate charges for Intoxication Assault, Open Container in Motor Vehicle and Failure to Control Speed were recommended and/or issued against the Zapata woman.
