What Happened

Texas Department of Public Safety officials are investigating a crash that killed one of the drivers involved. Officials say it occurred at SH-21 in Houston County, TX on February 19th, 2023 around 10:48 p.m. Investigators allege a Dodge Ram operated by 52-year-old Santos Castaneda was going westbound on SH 21 while a Chevrolet Silverado operated by 31-year-old Jose Nava Gomez was going eastbound. They further allege that the Dodge traveled into the eastbound lane before colliding with eh Chevrolet, causing the Dodge to veer into a bar ditch. The crash left Castaneda with fatal injuries and Gomez seriously injured. Officers allege suspicion that alcohol may have played a factor in the crash and had no additional information to share.
