What Happened

Authorities have information on a crash that left several people involved dead at I-35 in Austin, TX on July 30th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 2:32 a.m. Sources say a Lincoln Zephyr operated by a 35-year-old man who was not publicly identified was allegedly headed southbound at a high rate of speed. The vehicle is alleged to have traveled across two lanes before colliding with the rear of a Nissan Rogue operated by 50-year-old Veronica Cordova. The impact is believed to have caused the Nissan to overturn before it caught fire. Cordova suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Three other passengers in the Nissan, identified as 27-year-old Dante David, 26-year-old Miranda Rendon and 26-year-old Tailar Matthews. An additional 29-year-old passenger who was not publicly identified had possible injuries. The Lincoln operator had non-life-threatening injuries, according to officials. Sources indicate charges for Intoxicated Manslaughter and Accident Involving Death were recommended and/or issued by authorities.
