What Happened

State Police have identified the two people killed in a crash at US 14 near Powell, WY on February 24th, 2023. Police say the victims were sisters, 22-year-old Shannah Nelson and 20-year-old Wendy Nelson. Police say the sisters were traveling eastbound in a Chevrolet Silverado while crossing a bridge that was said to have been covered in ice. Investigators believe the ice caused the vehicle to lose control which further caused to travel into the westbound lanes. It was then struck near the rear of the vehicle by an approaching tractor-trailer, leaving both women with fatal injuries at the scene. The truck driver is said to have been uninjured. Authorities did not have additional information available to share.
