What Happened

Alaska Stat Troopers identified a person that killed an individual at Knudson Cove Rd in Ketchikan, AK on February 1st, 2025. Police say the incident happened as an excavator was unloaded from a trailer. Reports indicate both the truck and trailer somehow began to roll back and down a driveway and over an embankment, coming to rest in a nearby body of water. Officials say 80-year-old Darrell Vandergriff, was fatally injured in the incident. Additional information was not available.
