What Happened

Newport Beach and Orange County Sheriff's Office officials are investigating a crash that left three people dead at Pacific Coast Hwy in Newport Beach, CA on May 12th, 2022. Police believe it happened around 12:45 a.m. According to their investigation, a Tesla Model S was believed to have been headed westbound when it struck a curb and lost control. This prompted the vehicle to veer from the road into a piece of construction equipment. The three occupants of the vehicle, identified as 40-year-old Wayne Walter Swanson Jr, 34-year-old Crystal M McCallum and 32-year-old Andrew James Chaves, were all found deceased at the scene. Three construction workers present at the site were also left with non-life-threatening injuries. Further details were not yet available.
