What Happened

California Highway Patrol officials are investigating a crash that killed a man at I-5 in Oceanside, CA on December 6th, 2021. Officials say the incident happened around 3:20 a.m. A Ford Edge operated by 36-year-old Darryl Sheffey is said to have lost control and crashed under unclear circumstances and was disabled in traffic lanes after. Investigators say a 20-year-old Marino from Camp Pendleton attempted to assist Sheffey and his passenger when an approaching box truck collided with both the car and the Camp Pendleton man. He died at the scene while Sheffy and his 31-year-old female passenger were hospitalized with serious injuries. Police say that Sheffy was later arrested on multiple felony charges.
