What Happened

California Highway Patrol officials are investigating a crash that killed a man at Dairy Ave near Salem Ave in Kings County, CA on November 13th, 2021. Police say the incident happened just after 8 a.m. A Caterpillar backhoe operated by an unidentified 74-year-old male was driving in the shoulder of Dairy Ave when it entered onto the roadway. At that time, it was struck by an oncoming Freightliner truck, ejecting the 74-year-old when the Caterpillar overturned. A second vehicle then collided with the semi-truck and the Caterpillar truck. The 74-year-old died at the scene. The 35-year-old Freightliner driver was hospitalized with minor injuries while the third driver involved was not injured.
