What Happened

California Highway Patrol officials are investigating a crash that killed a man at National Trails Highway in Oro Grande, CA on July 18th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 7:15 a.m. Investigators believe a front loader backhoe somehow fell from a semi-truck while traveling across a bridge. It then landed on top of a passenger vehicle, which contained forward until crashing into a nearby tree. One occupant of the vehicle, an adult male who was not publicly identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second occupant, and adult female, also not identified, was hospitalized in critical condition. Additional information was not available.
