What Happened

California Highway Patrol officials are investigating a collision that killed a person at Hwy 101 in Nipomo, CA on September 1st, 2021. Police say the incident happened when the construction excavator attached to the trailer of an 18-wheeler hit a guardrail after suffering a tire blowout. This caused the excavator to break free from the trailer where it then rolled down an embankment onto an off ramp and fell onto an SUV. The driver of the SUV, 60-year-old Pyong Yun Song, was killed and there were no additional occupants. Additional information was not available.
