What Happened

State Police are investigating a cash that killed three people at I-70 in Wheat Ridge, CO on August 15th, 2024. Police say the incident happened as semi-truck headed eastbound on I-70 overturned under unclear circumstances. Reports say the large pipes the truck hauled somehow spilled out of the vehicle and struck a westbound vehicle with five occupants. Sources say three of the occupants, identified as Ruben Rodriguez, Juliana Rodriguez-Plata and Luz Melba Martinez were fatally injured. Two additional occupants as well as the driver of the truck were hospitalized with undisclosed injuries. Officials say there were two other vehicles involved in a collision, however, occupants in those vehicles allegedly refused medical care. Additional information was not available.
