What Happened

Florida Highway Patrol officials are investigating a crash that killed a man at State Rd 44 near Paradis Dr in Volusia County, FL on July 25th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 7:15 a.m. Investigators believe a Dodge Ram 1500 was headed eastbound. A pair of commercial trucks were entering into an eastbound lane, having performing a right hand turn from Paradise Drive. Officers allege the Dodge went into a westbound lane to pass one of the trucks and lost control while attempting to veer back into an eastbound lane. It then collided with a utility pole that was being hauled by one of the trucks, the pole impacting the windshield of the vehicle and striking the driver. The driver, a 34-year-old Eustis man who was not publicly identified, suffered fatal injuries. Two child passengers were taken to an area hospital for evaluation. The driver of the semi-truck was not injured. Additional information was not available.
