What Happened

Florida Highway Patrol officials are investigating a crash that injured a driver at West University Ave in Gainesville, FL on August 31st, 2021. Police say the incident involved a semi-truck turning right off West University Ave and collided with a scooter operated by Yousef Mugharbil. After the collision, both Mugharbil and the scooter were dragged for a distance between 50 and 100 feet before a witness screamed for the truck to come to a stop. Mugharbil was helped by witnesses at the scene prior to police and EMS arrival and treated for serious injuries. Police say initial investigating pointed to the scooter failing to yield to the truck to cause the accident.
