What Happened

Illinois State Police are investigating a crash that killed a person at I-57 in Jefferson County, IL on August 4th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 1:30 p.m. According to investigators, a passenger vehicle was headed northbound when it veered from the road for unknown reasons. It then veered into a median and embankment before colliding with the rear of a tractor-trailer headed northbound. The driver, identified as 61-year-old Irving Wright, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. His passenger, 53-year-old Sherice Wright, was hospitalized with serious injuries. The driver of the semi-truck reportedly refused medical attention. Additional information was not immediately available.
