What Happened

Illinois State Police are investigating a crash that killed two people at I-55 near Springfield, IL on October 30th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 8:47 p.m. According to investigators, a northbound tractor-trailer veered from th road for unknown reasons before striking a guardrail and crossing into a median. The vehicle went into southbound lanes and became disabled while blocking southbound lanes. An approaching pickup truck, operated by 29-year-old Nathan Tenneson, collided with the truck while a Ford Taurus, operated by 66-year-old Steven Hermanson, also struck the truck before the vehicles caught fire. Both Tenneson and Hermanson suffered fatal injuries. A passenger in the Ford was hospitalized with undisclosed injuries. The semi-truck driver was not injured.
