What Happened

Illinois State Police are investigating a crash that injured three people at Fairview and Somonauk Road in DeKalb, IL on October 19th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 7:09 a.m. Investigators say a Ford F-250 operated by 27-year-old Antonio Garcia Jr is alleged to have missed a stop sign at the intersection under heavy fog conditions. It then proceeding into the intersection before colliding with a Chevrolet van operated by 33-year-old Omar Cortes-Aguilar. While the drivers were outside their vehicles following the collision, police say a northbound semi-truck struck the van. A passenger in the van, identified as 26-year-old Octavio Hernandez-Mora, was seriously injured. Officials say he and Garcia Jr were both hospitalized for treatment. Reports indicate the driver of the semi-truck, identified as Robert Padilla, was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid and accident. Additional details were not available.
