What Happened

Iowa State Patrol officials are investigating a crash that killed three people at Hwy 127 in Harrison County, IA on June 18th, 2023. Police say the incident happened as a tractor-trailer operated by 73-year-old Ronald Meeker was rounding a curve on the westbound lanes of Hwy 127. The vehicle is said to have lost control and overturned into a southbound lane, striking a motorcycle operated by 53-year-old Steven Starkey. Both Starkey and a passenger, 53-year-old Julie Starkey, were thrown from the vehicle in the impact, suffering fatal injuries at the scene. Meeker also died at the scene, according to officials. Police say the occupants of two additional motorcycles involved were also forced from their vehicles but did not comment on their condition. Additional information was not available.
