What Happened

Kansas Highway Patrol officials are investigating a collision that killed a person at Kansas Turnpike in Wichita, KS on October 23rd, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 2:15 p.m. A semi-truck suffering from mechanical issues was traveling at a low speed while attempting to move onto a shoulder. A second approaching semi-truck collided with the rear of a the first truck and the impact caused it to catch fire. The driver of the second semi-truck, 60-year-old Darwin Dammann, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. The other driver, 34-year-old Ibrahim Bashir, was hospitalized with minor injuries. Further details were not provided.
