Emporia Police are investigating a train crash that injured two people at Merchant St in Emporia, KS on June 5th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 12:36 p.m. According to investigators, a tractor-trailer was attempted to reverse into the lot of a business as a train approached. Police say the crossing arms for the railroad lowered and the truck had not moved prior to the collision. The driver of the truck, 66-year-old James Covington and a passenger, 69-year-old Lyle Covington, both suffered serious injuries and were hospitalized.
