What Happened

Kansas Highway Patrol officials are investigating a crash that killed three people at 1500 Ave in Wichita, KS on September 20th, 2022. Police say the incident happened as a Dodge Dakota headed southbound on K-15 made a u-turn at 1500 Ave. A southbound semi-truck collided with the Dodge, pushing it into an eastbound field and causing it to overturn. The semi-truck also veered into the ditch before coming to a stop. The driver of the Dodge, 54-year-old Joel Hynes, was killed in the crash. Two passengers, 64-year-old May Hynes and 78-year-old John Hynes, were also killed. The semi-truck driver suffered minor injuries. Additional information was not available.
