What Happened

Kansas Highway Patrol officials are investigating a crash that killed a man at I-235 in Wichita, KS on October 30th, 2024. Officials are saying the incident happened round 1:21 p.m. According to investigators, a Chevrolet Express van was headed northbound, approaching a semi-truck stopped in a shoulder ahead. Reports say the truck began moving from the shoulder into a lane of travel, entering into the path of the van before a collision occurred. Authorities say 49-year-old passenger, Justin R. Higgins, was taken to an area hospital with injuries he later died from. The van operator, age 37 and not publicly identified, was hospitalized with alleged minor injuries. The semi-truck operator was allegedly uninjured. Additional information was not available.
