What Happened

State Police identified the teen killed in a collision at Q Rd and 112th in Nemaha County, KS on September 6th, 2021. Police say it happened around 10:20 a.m. A Chevrolet pickup truck operated by 16-year-old Lawson Schmelzle was headed northbound when it reportedly crossed a center line, striking the rear of a semi-truck. The pickup then veered from the road and overturned, causing Schmelzle fatal injuries at the scene. Additional information was not available.
