What Happened

State Police have information on a crash that killed a woman at US 51 in Ballard County, KY on January 20th, 2024. Officials are saying it happened around 8:30 p.m. According to reports, a Nissan Altima, allegedly operated by 70-year-old Theresa Polivick, was traveling northbound on US 51. At the same time, a semi-truck was allegedly backing across both lanes of travel near the entrance to a local paper mill at Union Construction Gate Rd. For unclear reasons, reports say the Nissan collided with and traveled underneath the truck. Polivick was extricated from the vehicle and taken to an area hospital with injuries she later died from, reports say. Her passenger, 70-year-old Larry Polivick, was hospitalized with injuries believed to be serious in nature. Reports allege the semi-truck operator, who was not publicly identified, was uninjured.
