What Happened

State Police have information on a crash that led to two deaths at  I-495 in Raynham, MA on November 9th, 2021. They say the incident happened around 7:15 a.m. A tractor-trailer headed north in a right breakdown lane was traveling slowly ahead of a Chevrolet Silverado operated by 57-year-old Christopher Sheppard. At some point, an axle became dislodged from the tandem wheels on the truck and rolled into travel lanes. Both the tractor-trailer and Silverado came to a stop while Sheppard exited the truck to retrieve the axle and wheels. Multiple vehicles nearby also come to a stop, including a Toyota Tacoma operated by 62-year-old Lauren Dyer. While stopped, an approaching tractor-trailer is said to have struck the Tacoma, pushing it into the stopped disabled tractor-trailer and Silverado.
