What Happened

State Police have information on a crash that killed a child at M-39 and 8 Mile Rd in Southfield, MI on December 7th, 2022. Police say the incident happened around 7:40 p.m. According to investigators, a passenger vehicle suffered a tire blow out and was in the process of attempting to exit the road before it was struck in the rear by a box truck. Officers say the the passenger car was traveling at a very low rate of speed at the time of the collision, which caused fatal injuries to a 9-year-old passenger in the vehicle. Both drivers and a second child were hospitalized with injuries police believe were not life-threatening. Additional information was not immediately available.
