What Happened

State Police are investigating a crash that killed at least two people at US 23 in Iosco County, MI on November 5th, 2021. Police say it happened around 8:30 a.m. in a construction zone. As traffic was reduced to one lane, a tractor-trailer is said to have failed to control its speed due to driver inattention and collided with multiple vehicles. The first vehicle struck was occupied by 39-year-old Jennifer Arocha, who died when the vehicle caught fire at the scene. A member of the construction crew, identified as 47-year-old Shawn Kelley, was working in the zone as a flag operator and was also struck. Kelley also suffered fatal injuries. The semi-truck caught fire following the collision, however the driver was not identified and additional information was not provided.
