What Happened

State Police are investigating a crash that killed two people at US Hwy 36 in Caldwell County, MO on July 4th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 9:30 a.m. According to investigators, a semi-truck is believed to have been headed eastbound before veering left to allow a GMC Yukon merge access on an on ramp. Police say while doing so, the GMC ended up traveling across multiple travel lanes before colliding with the truck as it attempted to avoid a collision, according to officials. One occupant of the GMC, identified as 70-year-old Susan Nutzman, died at the scene. A second occupant, identified as 70-year-old Ricky Nutzman, was taken to an area hospital with injuries he later died from. Police say the truck driver was not injured and had no additional information to share.
