What Happened

State Police are investigating a crash that killed multiple people at Hwy 7 in Garden City, MO on August 2nd, 2021. Police say it all happened around 11:15 a.m. A tractor-trailer operated by 59-year-old Everett Ashley was headed southbound when it lost control after Ashley allegedly suffered a heart attack and veered from the road. Investigators say the truck then went down an embankment and into northbound lanes where it collided head-on with a Nissan passenger car operated by 61-year-old Stephen Bennett. The impact was severe enough that Ashley and two Nissan passengers, 71-year-old Jean M Pariseau and 68-year-old Gerald Dittman, died at the scene. Bennett was taken to an area hospital where he also later died. An additional Nissan passenger, age 29, was hospitalized in serious condition. Further details were not immediately available.
