What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a collision that killed a driver at Eddy County Rd 798 near Carlsbad, NM on October 3rd, 2021. Police say the incident happened around 6:30 a.m. A pickup truck operated by 19-year-old Jaime Barbosa was headed northbound on Eddy County Rd 798 when it crossed into a southbound lane for unknown reasons. It then collided with a tractor-trailer on a south shoulder, causing Barbosa serious injuries. Police transported him to an area hospital where he died from his injuries later. The truck driver was not injured in the crash.
