What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a collision that killed a person at Roosevelt Rd 5 near Portales, NM on August 18th, 2022. Police say the incident happened when a pickup truck towing a trailer pulled onto a private residence to perform a u-turn. Investigators say the driver of the vehicle previously stopped the vehicle while talking with a neighbor, identified as 88-year-old Virginia Poe, and that the private residence belonged to Poe. The truck was entering a back road before it struck Poe. Poe was taken to an area hospital with injuries she later died from. Authorities say alcohol is not believed to have played a factor in the collision.
