What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed a man at Long Island Expressway in Brentwood, NY on April 5th, 2023. Police are saying it happened around 12:45 a.m. Investigators say a Jeep Liberty operated by 36-year-old Brandon Gillespie was allegedly stopped in a right lane of travel before it was struck in the rear by a box truck operated by 31-year-old Taron Smith. It was not stated why the Jeep may have been stopped. The resulting collision caused Gillespie fatal injuries. It was stated that police placed Smith under arrest on a suggested charge of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Additional information is not available at this time.
