What Happened

Area authorities are investigating a crash that killed one person involved at I-87 in Woodbury, NY on January 10th, 2024. Police say the incident happened around 12:10 a.m. According to investigators, a tractor-trailer operated by 30-year-old Sean M. Haley was allegedly headed southbound on I-87 prior to sideswiping a second tractor-trailer. That truck, operated by 42-year-old Jose L. Payano, was reportedly stopped a shoulder on the side of the roadway. Reports say Payano was outside of the truck nearby at the time of the collision and was also struck. Haley's truck overturned in the collision, sources say. It was stated by officials that Payano died at the scene while Haley was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
