What Happened

North Carolina Highway Patrol officials are investigating a crash that killed a driver at NC-87 in Bladen County, NC on January 25th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 6 a.m. Investigators say a tractor-trailer headed eastbound on Tobermory Rd failed to yield before colliding with a vehicle headed southbound on NC-87. Following the collision the tractor-trailer is said to have continued northbound without stopping. The driver of the second vehicle, identified as 31-year-old David Quinn Jones, suffered fatal injuries in the collision. Police say 65-year-old Charles Edward McDuffie later turned himself into police and charged McDuffie with hit-and-run, obstruction of justice and involuntary manslaughter.
