North Carolina Highway Patrol officials are investigating a collision that killed an officer at NC 150 in Davidson County, NC on September 9th, 2023. Police say the incident happened around 5:22 a.m. According to investigators, a box truck headed southbound is alleged to have traveled left of center before colliding head-on with a northbound patrol unit. The officers operating the patrol unit, identified as 32-year-old Deputy Auston Reudelhuber, suffered fatal injuries in the collision. The operator of the box truck, identified as 24-year-old William Benton, was not injured, according to sources. Sources further indicate charges for reckless driving, driving left of center and death by motor vehicle were recommended and/or issued against Benton.
