What Happened

State Police have identified the two drivers killed in a collision on Moores Chapel Rd in Charlotte, NC on August 4th, 2021. They say it happened around 1:10 p.m. A Mack dump truck operated by 66-year-old Donald Burnette was headed north on Moores Chapel when it veered from the road for unknown reasons. Investigators believe the truck overcorrected and crossed a center line, beginning to slide sideways. A southbound Kenilworh mack truck operated by 26-year-old Darius LaShawn Sweezy attempted to veer away from the other truck but was unable to avoid the impending collision. The trucks collided and Burnette was ejected from his truck as the Kenilworth truck continued down an embankment and caught fire. Both drivers died at the scene.
